Maybe I'll start doing that sooner. I'm just about to begin the 1954 season. I'll try it in 1955.
This way I get 4 more teams into the playoffs, so 12 will make it out of 80, but the division winners will still get a major advantage.
If I can do the wild card round the way I want, with the wild card team needing to win two games in the other team's park, while the division winner needs just one - the home team wins about 55% of the time. So for the wild card team to advance, 0.45 * 0.45 = they should advance about 20% of the time.
