Chris Tobin, the 36-year old veteran star third baseman of the Boston Berserkers, yesterday joined the 2,500 hit club, becoming just the sixth WPK player to reach this milestone.
Tobin is a 2-time league MVP, a 10-time All-Star and 10-time Silver Slugger winner (all but the most recent coming as a shortstop). There is a good chance he will eventually be enshrined in the WPK Hall of Fame in Dubuque, Iowa. He already has the JAWS score (56.3) that would indicate at least a serious candidate and his WAR (65.5) is nearly there, while his 109 Hall of Fame Monitor score is not a sure-thing number yet but it wouldn't take much more to get it there. After a 6.9 WAR 1982 season he is only on pace for 2.1 this season but he remains an offensive force and is a pretty decent defensive third baseman as well. Although he is considered a bit of a jerk (selfish) he is known to have a good work ethic and he's durable.
It says here he likely eventually gets a plaque in Dubuque.
