The Charlotte Sting received a huge blow to their hopes of contending for the MGL East title this year when they lost their 26-year old closer Vinny Arreola, the reigning MGL Reliever of the Year and considered by many to the best at his position in the game, to a torn meniscus.
One saving grace is that they have a 22-year old flamethrower in their 'pen (though likely destined to be in the starting rotation eventually) named Matt Webster. The question though is whether the control-challenged Webster is ready to take over this crucial role. He appeared in 22 games in relief for the Sting last season and went 2-5 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP. There is no doubt he has the stuff to blow batters away but he is very prone to wildness and the long ball. He is also rumored to be on the selfish side and not the solid citizen Arreola is.
