3-WAY TIE IN SI SECONDARY LEAGUE... SMILEYS HOST SAILORS IN FIRST ROUND... PELS GET THE BYE... ST. PETE AT HOME FOR PLAYOFF FINALS
It will take two weekends of playoff baseball to decide the South Island Secondary League pennant winner... St. Pete, Grin Hill and Gull Lake ended up tied for the league crown with 7-3 records and will now play it off.
All of the teams split the regular season games amongst them... the tiebreaker went to St. Pete... the Pelicans secured the invaluable bye via run differential... the Pels outscored their opponents 33-24 in the four games... Grin Hill was second best with 27-22... pulling up the rear was Gull Lake... the Sailors were outscored 14-28 in the regular season by the other playoff participants.
Gull Lake will travel to Grin Hill in the first elimination game this coming Sunday afternoon... the winner will then hit the road the following Sunday to play St. Pete for the league title.
The South Island Secondary League champion will be promoted to the South Island Supreme League next year.
All this rigamarole was caused by Grin Hill when they handily trounced Gull Lake 9-1 last weekend... St. Pete made it a 3-way deadlock with a 4-2 victory over the Littleville Supermen... in a game of also-rans the Moon Valley Dreamers swatted the Billing Rams 8-2.
