No, if you raise the engine config variable, there will be a larger gap between top and bottom players in the league (I think, at least), since defense is more valuable, it will change more plays.

Basically, you can think of it a bit like asking - in a default game, if a top SS "saves" 30 plays a season vs an average SS, and a bottom tier SS "misses" 15 plays vs an average one, then changing the engine config value to 200 will likely cause the top SS to "save" 60 plays and the bottom one to "miss" 30 plays. So I believe that should show up in ZR calculations and WAR.

The current gap we feel is right and balanced, but people may disagree. The important thing to note is that if you change those engine values, they can be very sensitive at times (hence why they are almost entirely hidden and not something you can just easily fiddle with). There are certainly going to be a lot of unintentional consequences to changing things in there, so I would re-iterate the manual warning to be very cautious about playing with any of them.
