2026 - Report #16
A busy week with some brawls and other things
American League Player of the Week goes to rookie Ed Swartwood of the Albany Warcats. Swartwood hit .500 with 4 homers and 10 RBI's as Albany is 22-19 on the season and 8 games back of the New York Yankees in the AL East
The top player in the National League is Aramis Ramirez of the San Bernardino Butcher. Ramirez had a huge week with 8 homer and 18 RBI's while batting .500. At 21, it seems Ramirez is breaking out in his 3rd major league season and San Bernardino is 28-14 on the season and in 2nd place in the AL Pacific trailing the first place Sacramento Bees by 4 games.
The Albuquerque Blackbirds defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 today at home in a game that was marred by a bench clearing brawl as Phillies reliever and Maple Leaf center John Tavares hit John Titus with a pitch in the 8th inning of the game. Tavares came in relief for Doug Brocail who had surrendered a three run homer to Melvin Upton. JT was not happy with the celebration and beaned Titus and the benches cleared. Tavares and Titus was suspended 2 games each
Winnipeg Wolf Pack rookie first baseman and Suns center DeAndre Ayton slugged 3 solo homers at home in a 6-3 win over the Moscow Battalion. Ayton has hit 16 homers already this season but has only driven in 22 runs. Justin Deamer added 2 hits and an RBI in the win.
John Olerud hit for the cycle today as the Albuquerque Blackbirds outlasted the Philadelphia Phillies 22-12 in a home game. Olerud went 5 for 7 and drove in 4 runs in the victory. Many are shocked about the cycle since Olerud is super slow and got a triple. Larry Doyle drove in 5 runs while Melvin Upton had 4 hits in this high scoring affair.
The San Bernardino Butchers are trying to chase the Sacramento Bees for first place in the AL Pacific and learned their star catcher Mickey Cochrane will be out 6 weeks with a hamstring strain. The loss occurred in a 16-0 blowout win over the Oslo Walruses at home. Cochrane hit 36 homers in his rookie season but has been suffering a bit from the sophomore jinx in 2026.
