Yeah, "September at best" isn't exactly great news for Jake, or the team.
After having India hit his first pitch halfway to Pakistan, Carrasco's next 57 pitches were great. Of course, pulling him after 58 pitches doesn't exactly scream "ready", but maybe he'll be going six before the end of August.
I'd certainly rather have Carrasco than Trevor Williams (who was NOT happy to get sent down) but what does it say that you ended up with ZERO pitchers good enough for the big club? Other than "yikes"?
And then Zack Scott was on the broadcast saying "you're not going to replace Jacob deGrom", as if we're too stupid to comprehend that there's an entire league of pitchers who might not be Jake-level…but who are better than Stocky Robert Stock. Sheesh.
Amazing that we have 12 arms in the pen (or whatever) and we end up trusting the 9th inning of a close game to…Anthony Banda. In his 2nd inning of work. Which Rojas actually planned on, working the double-switch to get Banda out of the 9-hole.
Yes, yes, save the arms…but you could do that by not showing up and taking the forfeit, too. At some point you might want to actually TRY to win the game. Just saying.
I do want to say that I know Baez is a great fielder and a skilled baserunner. But still.
I just hope that, rather than Nimmo having to give #9 (Baez's preferred number) off of his back, Rojas has the class to offer Baez #19 off of his own back. Because, let's face it, he might not need it much longer, anyway.
Great Moments in Broadcasting: bottom of the 8th inning, and McCann, double-switched into the 9-spot, singles with one out. First Met to reach base after 15 straight retired.
Keith says that this is great because now Alonso will hit this inning. Somehow missing that there are only 2 outs left in the inning, and Pete is still 3 batters away. (Nimmo, McNeil and then Pete). Sheesh.
Gary "corrects" him…but only by telling Keith a double-play is possible. Double-Sheesh.
(Nimmo walks, McNeil hits a loud foul but then pops up, Pete hits into a force play. So much for that "rally".)
Oh, and the less said about the return of the quasi-racist black uniforms, the better. Did Charlie "Back of the Truck" Samuels break out of prison, or something?
(Yes, yes, it's extremely unlikely that Samuels went to prison to begin with. But let me dream…)
