Hey Devs! Wanna REALLY geek out?
So in my other life (when I'm not playing OOTP), I have a podcast that deals with my attempts to overcome a lifelong fight with insomnia.
A bunch of episodes back (in a show that also included Dan Shulman), I interviewed Dr. Ravi Allada from Northwestern University. With all the focus being put these days on the importance of sleep among professional athletes, I wanted to talk to him about a study he did.
Ravi and his team went DEEP into more than 40 years of MLB statistics, and investigated the impact of JET LAG on MLB statistics.
Here's what they learned - just in case anyone ever decides to throw it into the game engine as a fun tweak...
Jet lagged pitchers give up more homers.
That's the one and only stat that seems to be impacted by flying from coast to coast for games. It actually has such a pronounced effect that in light of the study, some teams will now actually fly their SP out in advance when possible, so their circadian rhythms have a chance to adjust before their starts.
