News Around the League

26 April 2300 - Huz Tosses 6-0 Shutout

Fans at Nuka Cola Square witnessed the College Square Nerd Ragers blank the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, 6-0 behind a superb effort by starter Ryan Huz. The College Square right-hander allowed 2 hits in recording the shutout.

"Ryan was good today but I don't want to focus too much on a single game," College Square manager Deadball Jenkins said later. "If you're capable of playing at this level, you're capable of having a good game. The real question is if you can learn from that game and repeat it."

Players of the Week

Aguilar Picked CA Player of the Week

So far in his young career, Carlos Aguilar has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Commonwealth Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 20-year-old College Square Nerd Ragers third baseman hit at a torrid .538 clip as he collected 7 hits in 13 at-bats, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

Johnny Tattooman Captures MA Award

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Johnny Tattooman was rewarded with the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Fiddler's Green T-60s third baseman hit .563 while collecting 9 hits in 16 at-bats, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs.

Prospect Spotlight

#18 - LF Michaelangelo Sandifer, Somervile Place Sentry Bots (Egret) - 14/38 (.368), 2 HR, 10 R, 7 RBI, 9 BB, 8 SO
Analysis: Egret's former 2nd-round pick has been progressing nicely and looks like he'll be a good addition to the outfield lineup in time. He has been a good defensive corner outfielder from the start, but now his bat is starting to come around, currently holding a .490 OBP. As of last season, scouts started noticing changes in his approach to the plate with a lot more contact than he had in past seasons. While he does hit too many balls right at the shortstop or left fielder, he had been finding the gap up the middle more as of late, leading to a fast start in 2300.

#19 - SP Aimer Doghair, Malden Grognaks (County Crossing) - 3 GS, 1-1, 3.78, 16.2 IP, 15 HA, 7 ER, 4 BB, 10 K
Analysis: The 2298 2nd-round pick for County Crossing struggled in his rookie campaign, going 3-10 with an 8.54 ERA in 18 starts, but he has turned that around so far in 2300. His curveball is coming around to be his dominant pitch over his mid-90s fastball. He is a focused player, so he only looks to improve in the future barring injury.

#20 - SP Jason Bourque, Corvega Flamers (Sunshine Tidings) - 3 GS, 3-0, 1.33, 20.1 IP, 22 HA, 3 ER, 7 BB, 13 K
Analysis: Originally taken in the 2nd round of the 2297 Rookie Draft by The Slog, Sunshine Tidings' Bourque is looking more and more like he will be ready for the CBO soon. He needs to work more on his control to walk fewer batters, but he has had success ever since being traded to the Chemists organization with no higher than a 3.77 ERA in the BMU. His first three starts have all been plus starts this season, and if his slider gets any more deadly, he'll be striking out a ton of CBO batters soon.

# 21 - 1B Chase Doctorman, Vault 95 Robobrains (Vault 81) - 17/41 (.415), 2 2B, 2 HR, 6 R, 9 RBI, 7 BB, 4 SO
Analysis: The 5th overall pick of the 2298 Rookie Draft, Doctorman has improved over a solid rookie campaign, showing he may get the call up to the Dwellers before he knows it. That would mean Jason Robinson, who is doing well for the CBO club would be expendable, but Doctorman looks to be a plus talent they need. Currently with a .415/.500/.610 line, Doctorman has been crushing the ball so far in the 2300 season. His extra-base hits have not come in bunches just yet, but he did have 26 in 75 games last season. That number will probably go up in 2300, assuming he does not get the call up.

# 28 - CF Any Why, Easlake Aquaboys (FHE) - 8/40 (.200), HR, 6 R, 3 RBI, 6 BB, 13 SO, 4 SB, 2 CS
Analysis: While the other five prospects ranked in the late-teens to 20s are doing well, Why has struggled so far in 2300. Considered a good all-around player with no outstanding skills, Why should develop into a decently good outfielder in the CBO. But first he needs to find his bat. The former 17th overall pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft, Why showed marked improvement with the Aquaboys last season. That should give the Yao Guai franchise hope that he will be ready if he needs to be called up due to injury. Even with only a .200/.304/.275 line right now, those numbers should start crawling up soon. He has certainly been unlucky with finding the gaps so far, but he should improve on his 38 extra-base hits in 2299.
