Results: Started out very close, the '31 Cardinals only held a 1 game lead through mid June, but then the Cardinals won 12 out of 15 in late June early July to take control, and ultimately win 87-74. Paul Derringer and Syl Johnson each had 20 win seasons for the '31 Cardinals, while Chick Hafey and Frankie Frisch each had .300 batting seasons. The '69 Mets had 3 players(Jones, Agee and Shamsky) each bat .300 while Shamsky added 46 HRs, but their pitching was not good enough to subdue the Cardinals. Tom Seaver pitched a 1 hitter in one of his starts for the '69 Mets.

Results: By far the closest series so far. The '16 Cubs jumped out to a 17 game lead by mid summer, but the '67 Cardinals were able to eat away at a 9 game September 1st defecit to eventually tie the series at 81-81 and force a tiebreaker. Jorge Solar hit a home run in the 9th inning of the tiebreaker game to give the '16 Cubs the game 5-3 and a 82-81 series win. Jon Lester went 17-12 with a 3.02 ERA for the '16 Cubs pitching staff. Steve Carlton went 17-11 with a 3.45 ERA for the Cardinals pitching staff.

Results: This series went to the wire as well, as the '95 Indians defeated the '04 Red Sox 82-81. The '04 Red Sox had an 8 game lead in late June, but they couldn't hold on, as the Indians stormed ahead in August. By September 10th the Indians had built a 5 game lead, which the Red Sox managed to erase to force a tiebreaker game at 81-81. The '95 Indians won the tiebreaker 8-1, Manny Ramirez went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI and a double. Jim Thome and Manny Ramirez each had a .300 average and 30 HR for the '95 Indians. David Ortiz had a .302 AVG and 27 HR for the '04 Red Sox. Pedro Martinez battled injuries throughout the season or the '04 Red Sox may have been more dominant.

Hebner and Stargell each had 35 HR seasons for the Pirates, while Roberto Clemente hit .300. The highest Rockies home run total was 21 by Garrett Atkins even though the Rockies played half the games in Coors field.

Schoolboy Rowe and Tommy Bridges each had 20 win seasons for the '34 Tigers, and Hank Greenberg smashed a .330/40 HR clip. Dave Parker and Willie Stargell each batted over .290 and 35 HR for the '79 Pirates but it wasn't enough to keep it close in the end.
