Don Newcombe led Dodger pitchers with a 19-5 record and a 4.53 ERA. Duke Snider led Dodger hitters with a .387/41 HR clip and Carl Furillo broke the .400 barrier with a .411/31 HR clip. Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, and Jim Gilliam all hit above .370 as well. The '55 Dodgers had an 18 game winning streak at one point in May, and a 23 game winning streak in June-July.

The Astros led by 7 games after April, but the Marlins cut that to 4 games by the end of May, 1 game by the end of June, and by August 1st they were ahead by 6 games. The Marlins ended up winning the series 85-76 and sent the Astros home packing. There were no real standout performers for the Marlins but the '97 Marlins lead in almost all team categories.
