Lol, "a mugshot waiting to happen". Sad, but true.
(I wish I could "dine and dash". Hobbling with this cane because my quadriceps quit on me is for the birds!)
Someone else with leg issues was 1975 Cubs #1 pick Brian Rosinski. The local boy (Evanston, home of Northwestern) was selected #4 overall and had a good rookie season, but then suffered a hamstring injury at Pompano Beach in 1976, which set him back several years. Eventually, he had a strong year at AAA Wichita in 1980 (.944 OPS) and when the team traded Barry Foote to the Yankees the following year, it looked as though that open roster spot was Rosinski's ticket to the show.
Except that Rosinski hurt the hamstring again, Gary Krug got the call-up in his place, Brian sulked to a miserable season at Iowa (.697) and was released.
Sic Transit Gloria Wichita…
Here, the Cubs AI is enamored of whiff machines like Rosinski (137 Ks last year, on pace for 166 in '81), Karl Pagel, and Fritzie Connally. Which seems much of a muchness, even if Rosinski's .288 BA is second on the club behind #1 Overall draft pick Tony Gwynn. I mean, if the Cubs wanted this, they could have kept Kingman.
(Dave's in St. Louis, leading the Cards in HR despite not being able to get a regular lineup slot.)
And it's one thing to decide that Bill Buckner is getting pushed out…but sending him to the White Sox for
Leo Sutherland, even up?? It's brilliant decisions like this that keep the Mets confident they won't end up any lower than 5th place…
