Sorry. #5 is playing the 5 in 3 Rivers these days. (Bill Madlock's gone to play 2B for Oakland.)
If you're looking for loyal 3Bs, Doug DeCinces re-upped in Baltimore. And you'll probably be pleased to hear that Cecil Cooper's free agency brought him back to Boston. (The Sox are rather loaded, but I still don't trust a rotation with the likes of Torrez and Rainey backing up Eck and MacGregor.)
Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, my Rangers just lost to a 13th-inning walk-off HR by Joe Charboneau. Thus dropping us to 0-6 against the Tribe for the season. (Our record against the Angels also sucks.) If you can't beat
those guys…
And, at 2B for Cleveland, Ken Barton! Sure IRL he capped three seasons of progress at AA with a nice .306/.404/.452 for Chattanooga in 1980, but flopped at AAA Charleston in 1981 and was told to find a new career. (He really hasn't; still working as a hitting instructor all these years later.) But come on, who's he battling here? Kuiper? Dybzinski? Dave Rosello? Kevin Rhomberg? The AI giving the switch-hitter with the sweet 'stache a shot is hardly a shock, considering their other "options".
