I have done this 100 times using this method
backup league I want to test
restore from backup - use orginalleaguename_TestX as the leaguename
sim 1 year, 5 years, 100 years...
never had an issue
also worth noting I am an obsessive backup guy and have a backup for every month or so of leagues I care about on a NAS - no matter how bad I screw something up I can almost always get back to a previous backed up point in a league
