I love the base game. But the developers (and I) also love Perfect Game.
These tweaks are minor, so they wouldn't turn off casual players. But at the high levels, it would add a level of intrigue when the cards are still so largely the same.
If players are that casual, I don't believe they'd care about the changes. The AI does a fine job substituting if the players don't, but a compromise might be to add the variants only to the higher leagues.
