Year 2026 - Season 6 (Friday)
Concentrating on defense, not surprisingly, has improved the team. What is surprising is that, as of this writing, we are currently holding the 2nd Wild Card with a record of 58-53.
The rotation held together. Luis Patino started off poorly, losing his first 4 starts and sporting a 6.56 ERA over 23.1 IP. But then he reeled off 6 straight wins. Joe McGinnity stands at 13-7 as the ace of the staff. The BaL Diamond pitchers had mixed results. Wainwright is 7-11 3.57 ERA 133 WHIP, Guidry is 10-7 4.43 / 1.36, and Marichal is 8-9 5.36 / 1.36. Marichal replaced Irv Young who also went 0-4 in his first four starts.
The biggest positive change was unlocking Diamond Jonathan Lucroy. After 62 games acting as the strong-side platoon, he's in the Top 10 in the league in the much-maligned stat Catcher ERA (CERA) with a 3.93. He's also doing it at the plate, slashing .321 / .377 / .431 with 27 RBIs and 40 runs.
Rafael Furcal, platooning with Rico Petrocelli, has also helped on both sides of the plate. We've been getting great production out of the shortstop position
Furcal: 63 GS, 289 PA, .276 / .346 / .433 44 runs, 33 RBI, 2.6 WAR
Petrocelli: 97 GS, 416 PA, .262 / .361 / .451 47 runs, 56 RBI, 2.5 WAR
1000th Pack
On Thursday, I ripped my 1000th pack, courtesy of a 2nd place finish in a Silver Non-Live 1625 Cap Bo7 tourney. Of the 6000 cards, I've pulled 4 Perfects (all Lives) and 55 Diamonds (41 Lives, 14 Historicals). The last Historical Diamond I pulled was Ned Garvin (SS 93), who went immediately into the rotation to replace Juan Marichal. He promptly went 6.1, giving up 2 earned runs, walked 3 and struck out 2 in a no-decision against the 50-62 Philadelphia Phillies.
