Overall Advantage St Louis
In the bottom of the second, the Colt .45's loaded the bases with two out. Alas, the pitcher's spot was up next and Tiefenauer went down on strikes to end the inning.
In the bottom of the third, the Colt .45's had runners at the corners and nobody out. Mejias grounded to short but Gotay's throw to second sailed into the outfield, allowing Spangler to score the game's first run. Larker singled to load the bases with nobody out. Buddin then scored from third when Aspromonte grounded to third. Mejias scored from third when Amalfitano grounded to first. With two out, Larker scored on a wild pitch.
After three: Houston 4 St Louis 0.
In the top of the sixth, White parked a three-run homer 387 feet in the stands to make it a one-run game. A gigantic two-out two-run 485 foot blast off the bat of Oliver gave the Cardinals the lead.
After six: St Louis 5 Houston 4.
In the top of the eighth, Bobby Shantz took the mound for the Colt .45's.
In the bottom of the eighth, after the Cardinals fourth error of the game allowed the lead off hitter to reach first, Lindy McDaniel took the mound for the Cardinals. The Colt .45's went on to load the bases with one out. Amalfitano then gave the Colt .45's the lead back with a three-run triple. But Amalfitano would be thrown out at home by Warwick as he tried to score from third on a Ranew flyout.
In the top of the ninth, with a runner on first and two out, pinch hitter Carl Sawatski grounded to first to end the game.
The Colt .45's got five unearned runs off the four Cardinals errors.
Final score: Houston 7 St Louis 5.
