A day with some achievements for sure
Angels star hitter Chuck Klein socked his 300th career homer today as the Los Angeles Defeated the Amsterdam Smokies 8-2. Klein had 3 hits on the day and slugged the milestone homer off of Bill Wynne. Monte Irvin and Kevin Bell had 3 RBI's each and Jim Whitney improved to 3-0 on the season. In 2023 Klein hit 78 homers and 197 RBI's and is one of the best players historically in the league.
Bob Feller pitched a game for the Chicago Cubs by striking out 16 batters as Chicago triumphed over the Oklahoma City Colts 11-1. Feller pitched 7 innings to get the 16 K's and allowed 2 hits one of which was a Franmil Reyes homer. Feller is now 2-0 on the season. Bris Lord drove in 4 runs and Joe Panik had 3 hits for the victorious Cubs who are in first place in the NL Central with a one game lead over the Albuquerque Blackbirds.
In a game of baseball teams in obscure markets, Gene Alley collected 6 hits to lead the Fargo Horsemen to an 11-9 win in 12 innings over the Grand Junction Gold Rush Alley had 6 hits and 4 RBI's while Pepe Mangual drove in 3 runs for Fargo who have steadily climbed to 7-9 on the year.
George Van Haltren continued the high achievement day 15 strikeouts for the St Louis Cardinals as they blanked the Grand Rapids Crawdads 9-0. Van Haltren fanned the 15 over 8.2 innings. Harry Wolter drove in 5 runs and Dick Egan drove in another 3 to lead the Redbirds on the rampage and a 10-6 record. This Grand Rapids team is now 9-7 so they are not the usual variety.
