2025 - NL West and NL Pacific Previews

And here are the last 2 division before the 2025 season commences

NL West

1. Billings Beacons
Managed by Eric O'Riley (2nd season)

Top Players: Don Sutton, David Palmer, Roy Smalley
Top Prospects: Andrew McCutchen, Carlos Ruiz, Kelly Johnson

Comments: They are in 2nd season and building nicely but like most 2nd year teams loaded with present holes

2. Austin Donkeys
Managed by: Dallas Georges (2nd season)

Top Players: Sam Thompson, Ray Durham, John Kane
Top Prospects - Jeff Bagwell, Bud Norris, Danny Moeller

Comments: made good strides in 2024, will be in the top 5 in the division

3. Albuquerque Blackbirds
Managed by: Dan Beavers (4th season)

Top Players: Francisco Liriano, John Olerud, Harry Lord
Top Prospects: Edgar Martinez, John Titus, Tony Solaita

Comments: Should be better at this point, maybe they can put it together and compete for division in 2025.

4. Boise Parrots
Managed by Garrett Klink (5th season)

Top Players: Hyun-Jin Ryu, Ed Mars, Patrick Corbin
Top Prospects: George Davies, Kenley Jansen, Donn Clendenon

Comments: Clendenon will be out for most of the year, team can pitch but they can't hit, they were in the race for most of the year still in 2024

5. El Paso Grizzlies
Managed by Jon Gonzalez (3rd season)

Top Players: Greg Swindell, Jakie May, Monk Dubiel
Top Prospects: Mordecai Brown, John Farrell, Dick Drago

Comments: Brown is in the minors, team is still waiting to make their steps, should try to avoid 100 losses in 2025

6. Edmonton Bluebirds
Managed by Kevin Dunivan (3rd season)

Top Players: Mitch Haniger, Bill Schroeder, Bo Jackson
Top Prospects: Bill Crowley, Dan Haren, Atlee Hammaker

Comments: Will have a hard time avoiding 100 losses as their team has no true core.

7. Colorado Rockies
Managed by Jayden Branch (4th Season)

Top Players: Cy Blanton, Allie Reynolds, Richard Hidalgo
Top Prospects: Robinson Cano, Willie Kamm, Tommy Boggs

Comments: Won the division the last 2 years but lost Noodles Hahn to free agency. They did get Cy Blanton from the New York Yankees, still will have a solid chance to repeat in the division but they also fade in playoffs.

8. Moscow Battalion
Managed by: Bobby Cherrington (1st season)

Top Players: Kerry Wood, Al Downing, Ray Chapman
Top Prospects: Art Shamsky

Comments: Going to be interesting to see how baseball pans out in Russia. They did ironically get Artemi Panarin on their team. Don't expect much, hopefully Putin will be OK with that

9. Las Vegas Snake Eyes
Managed: by Tyrese Fischer (7th season)

Top Players: Tony Manero, Brandon Webb, Caris Levert
Top Prospects: Billy Rhines Lefty O'Doul, Bo Belinsky

Comments: Team is too pitching heavy yet they almost make the playoffs each year. Odd strong rotation with nightclub patron Tony Manero and hoopster Caris Levert at the core but it works.

10. Santa Fe Impact
Managed by Amari Crook (1st Season)

Top Players - Mike Siroka, Frank Hoffman, Hank Schrader
Top Prospects: Ron Fairly, Phil Regan

Comments: first year team that will struggle. Albuquerque DEA Hank Schrader is 38 and is th core of the offense, won a world title in 2023 with Utah Saints.

11. Arizona Diamondbacks
Managed by: Rob Moyers (4th season)

Top Players: Don Drysdale, Jesse Burkett, Bob Bescher
Top Prospects - Ernie Whitt, Geromino Pena, Joe Musgrove

Comments: Have a very solid rotation with Red Ehret and Eddie Lopat, so they can win this division. Lost in wild card to eventual champions the Cincinnati Reds in 2024

12. Cozumel Scouts
Managed by: Alex Yannacone (2nd season)

Top Players: Juan Guzman, David Murphy, Elden Auker
Top Prospects: Rick Monday, Greg Vaughn, Ozzie Virgil

Comments: 2nd year team that will struggle to win 50 games in 2025, they have some power bats on the way up at least

NL Pacific

1. Los Angeles Dodgers
Managed by Larry Andersen (3rd season)

Top Players: Bill Gullickson, Bob Glenalvin, Dusty Miller
Top Prospects: Rube Kisinger, Jimmy Johnston, Joel Davis

Comments: they were in the race last year and may be there this year, not an exciting team but they have a funny manager at least

2. San Jose Skeeters
Managed by John Morrow (2nd season)

Top Players: Brian Lawrence, Joe Torre, Bill Dinneen
Top Prospects: Ralph Garr, Will Clark, Steve Finley

Comments: will be better than most 2nd year teams, Finley is in the show, the others are not. They add a dominant arm in Lawrence through free agency as Lawrence was key part of the 2020 world champion Seattle Mariners

3. Sacramento Bees
Managed by Jim Alme (3rd season)

Top Players: George Wright, Josh Beckett, Jack Easton
Top Prospects: Jose Deleon, Aaron Hicks, Willie Banks

Comments; Sacramento won the division last year but once again got swept in the playoffs. They can easily win again this year but need better postseason run

4. San Bernardino Butchers
Managed by Matt Stancil (2nd season)

Top Players: Dave Henderson, Chandler Bing, Phil Hughes
Top Prospects: Mickey Cochrane, Jocko Fields, Bill Hague

Comments; In their 3rd year and Cochrane is on the farm. Bing although lacking seriousness at times had a good rookie year. They would get to .500 if they stay focused

5. San Diego Padres
Managed by: Jim Bonnett (1st season) was Toronto Blue Jays BC

Top Players: Earl Averill, Yoan Moncada, Damion Easley
Top Prospects: Miguel Cabrera, Smoky Burgess, Matt Williams

Comments: Many players left this team and Andy Green got fired, but the team will rebuild quick with Miggy and those prospects, expected them to dip this year for a brighter 2026.

6. Van Nuys Arrows
Managed by; Jason Peterman (2nd season)

Top Players: Wilin Rosario, Carlos Gonzalez, Cory Snyder
Top Prospects: George Stone, Pinky Whitney, Jose Guillen

Comments: 2nd year team, will struggle but avoiding 100 losses would be a good bar for 2025.

7. San Francisco Giants
Managed by: Matt Harmon (2nd season)

Top Players: Tommy Davis, Deacon White, Boardwalk Brown
Top Prospects: Curt Welch, Billy Southworth, Jerome Williams

Comments: team struggled to make .500 in 2024 and same is expected for 2025 there is not much here for an established team

8. Redding Missions
Managed by: Andy Decker (1st season)

Top Players: Corey Koskie, Rafael Nadal, Hank Arft
Top Prospects: Val Picinich, Rusty Gerhardt

Comments: this is a very bad team. Raffa may be a great tennis player but he is not a #2 player in any world on the diamond. Expect 120 losses here.

9. Honolulu Riptides
Managed by: Matt Ledezma (1st season) was BC for Bogota Broncos in '24

Top Players: Mort Cooper, Ham Iburg, Al Simmons
Top Prospects: Arlie Pond, Dick Simpson, Chris Volstad

Comments: This team should win the division this year they fired their manager in Paul Semrad and have power hitting and pitching, it should all come together in 2025

10. Tijuana Pelcians
Managed by: Mike Stoehr (3rd season)

Top Players: Bill McGunnigle, Red Munger, Alvin Davis
Top Prospects: Al Wingo, Wandy Rodriguez,

Comments: Wingo is in the minors. This is not a very good team, will be challenged not to lose 100 games this year. Munger is the wildcard

11. Vancouver Men-O-War
Managed by: Mario Nieves (2nd season)

Top Players: Billy Hamilton, Jouett Meekin, Jim Ray Hart
Top Prospects: Nap Lajoie, William Van Landingham, Frank Shellenback

Comments: Lajoie is in the minors. This team had a solid second half, a winning season would make GM John Smoltz very happy

12. Melbourne Caribou
Managed by: Marvin Murphy (1st season)

Top Players: Willis Hudlin, Yunel Escobar, Kevin Jepsen
Top Prospects: Hal Reniff

Comments: This is just a bad team in their first year, the Australian fans just have to come out to keep them in the black in the balance book
