Before OOTP22 I would leave the trading set to default normal. Now I have it one notch below hard and find it to actually be fairly reasonable so I don't use house rules anymore.
I use to use house rules for contracts a lot. I would offer a 3 year deal, with the last two being team options, to a player with no intention of keeping him past 1 year. I would load up the option years so he would sign. I stopped doing that.
