Bastille day brought in a couple of notable trades

The Pittsburgh Pirates are 16 games back in the NL Central and have not given up just yet as they make a trade for veteran pitcher Ted Lyons from the Evansville Steelhawks. The Bucs send back to Evansville a package of Bernie Graham, German Duran and Daniel Zamora. Not much of a package but getting a 31 year old pitcher whose best years were with the Detroit Tigers between 2019-2021 does not seem that logical.

The other deal of note saw the Wichita Hawkeyes trade their former closer Charlie Hudson to the Saskatoon Beavers for veteran Smoky Joe Wood. Deal being made doesn't have logic either given that neither team will sniff the postseason except Saskatoon got the much younger player. Hudson is 23 and had 48 saves for Wichita between 2022 and 2023 but has been bad this year, meanwhile Smoky Joe is a 37 year old who had played the previous 5 years for the St Louis Cardinals. Wood is from Kansas City so it could be just a favor to have him end his career a few hours from home.
