7/2/24 Big Injury and Trade

Today the Foxwoods Colonials who have been very competitive in the AL East learned that they lost their star closer Steve Foster for the season. Foster threw 3 pitches on 7/1 in a game against the Mississippi Crew where Foxwoods held on to win 3-2. Foster left the game and it was learned that he tore his rotator cuff. Foster had 25 saves already this year and 25 in 2023. Foxwoods was in 4th place, 10 games behind the New York Yankees and had bragging rights for New England with a 2 game lead on the Boston Red Sox. Foxwoods will turn to Joel Hanrahan as the closer now in the absence of Foster.

The trade of the day saw the Atlanta Braves deal away long time role player George Wood and George Yeager to the Van Nuys Arrows for RP Arnie Stone and Bill Kennedy. Atlanta is one game out of first in the NL Atlantic behind the Philadelphia Phillies and adding Stone is a curious move as had a whip of 1.90 despite 14 savies. Braves GM Jonathan Sotelo defended the trade stating that Stone was overworked and you have to look at his decent numbers in 2023 for the Mexico City Salukis as an indicator on how he could help us" George Wood is 26 year old Canadian player known as a singles hitter, will get a lot of playing time in Van Nuys
