Reitz cycling, Gross injured
The news of the day was Heinie Reitz hitting for a cycle in an 8-1 drubbing by the Fresno Bashers over the Calgary Fusion. Reitz got 4 hits mostly off the dominant Juan Marichal. This was billed as a classic pitching duel between Marichal and Mickey Harris, Harris was the only one up to the task. Harris was also helped by 2 homers from catcher Charlie Graham. Fresno is sitting 6 games back in the AL Pacific third place behind the Oakland Athletics.
Meanwhile, Washington Nationals lost one of their catchers for the season in Emil Gross. Gross has been a mainstay on the Nats field for 6 years winning a world series ring in 2019, but he went down in a 6-4 loss against the lowly Grand Rapids Crawdads. Injury was determined to be torn PCL which means Dave Nilsson who shared in the catching and played first base will be catching full time.
