Ahh… I love the smell of pine tar in the morning…
San Francisco Giants (0-0, .000, t-1st NL West) @ Seattle Mariners (0-0, .000, t-1st AL West)
This year’s version of the Giants aren’t exactly held in the highest regard – they are likely a couple of years away from true contention while they wait out some bad contracts, but they’re better than they look (maybe – they have a lot of bounce back types) and should have enough in the tank to give us problems should our focus wane at home.
1 of 162: Kevin Gausman (0-0, 0.00) @ Marco Gonzales (0-0, 0.00)
Win, 7-1. Off on the good foot…
Marco pitched a gem – 8 innings, 6 hits, and 1 earned while fanning 7 –
Haniger reintroduced himself to the hometown faithful with a double in his first at-bat and a 2 for 4 day at the plate overall,
Bobby Dalbec put one out of the park in his Seattle debut, and
Austin Hedges did the same. Two runs for the reigning Rookie of the Year, 3 swiped bags for the club, and a tasty
France-Wong-Dalbec double play on defense as well. All systems go, this is our year – I can feel it.
Also, I should note that we brought our entire lineup up to the plate during the 5th frame…we got one of those fancy achievements and everything
Elsewhere: Miguel Sano went 2 for 3 with 2 jacks, 4 RBI, 3 runs, and a walk during Minnesota’s opening day, 11-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Whoa Nellie Cruz and
Mitch Garver also put balls out for the Twins, and
SP Kent Maeda finished 1 for 3 with a 2-run single he laid down with two outs already on the board in the 5th.
Record: 1-0
