I'm left-handed and played in a men's league in my late 20s. We had no catcher but our SS's father was left-handed and a high school coach so he had a catcher's mitt. I'm not very good so I wasn't starting anywhere else and we didn't have a catcher so I got handed the mitt, was asked if I was wearing a cup (not that they would have cared) and wished good luck. The guy on the mound threw what felt like 90 with a drop off the table curve. I'm sure it was more like 75 but that was last time I ever did that.
