Walkers news: August 6 -- St. Louis 6, Indianapolis 2
Record: 64-44, 2nd, 3.5 GB Des Moines
St. Louis hit three home runs over the course of the first two innings, and rookie starter Jerry Tate continued to pile up the win, earning his 12th victory of the season, as the River Walkers downed Indianapolis 6-2 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Back-to-back one-out homers from Jose Ramirez and Jose Segura off Racers starting pitcher Matt Loest in the bottom of the first staked St. Louis to a 2-0 lead.
An inning later, with their lead at 2-1 following a homer by the Racers' Adrian Penucci, Jean Carmona blasted a three-run homer off Loest to make it 5-1.
Jose Ramirez had an RBI single off former St. Louis prospect Ron Petersen in the seventh to complete the scoring for St. Louis.
Tate (12-1) allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Nick Ruffalo pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Josh Forgy got the first out of the ninth, but also allowed two base runners.
Andres Hernandez took over and got John DeSautel to hit into a double play to end it, and give him his first save of the season.
