History of the Haunted House
This mansion was the family home of the Grandchester family, including Hannibal, Morticia, and their daughter, Lucy. Lucy Grandchester allegedly became possessed and murdered her parents, was committed to a mental institution*, then escaped and committed suicide by hanging in the attic shortly after her 18th birthday. An indeterminate time later, this house was converted to a tourist attraction, taking advantage of the high traffic from the nearby Nuka-World amusement park.
Lucy: Lucy was the daughter of Morticia and Hannibal Grandchester. According to a legend, she killed her parents and was put into a mental asylum. She escaped on her 18th birthday and was found hanging in the attic of the Grandchester Mystery Mansion nine days later in an apparent suicide. Her ghost haunts her family mansion, which was turned into an attraction for Nuka-World. Her ghost can be seen around the mansion several times, disappearing into dead ends when tourists come close.
Hannibal: Hannibal Grandchester was the father of Lucy Grandchester and husband of Morticia Grandchester. He severely hated his daughter Lucy due to the fact that she was the reason his wife nearly died in labor. As Lucy grew up he would beat her with his cane, which he needed after Lucy attempted to poison him. He later died due to mysterious circumstances when he was found with a pair of scissors in his head. Lucy claimed that he must have fallen onto the scissors, though his fingers were found cut from his hands.
Morticia: Morticia Grandchester was the mother of Lucy Grandchester and wife of Hannibal Grandchester. She nearly died giving birth to her daughter Lucy. She believed that evil spirits were possessing her daughter, so she later hired a psychic to help get rid of the spirits in the house. After refusing to give her daughter's doll a kiss goodnight, she was found dead with the doll stuffed in her mouth. She also had rope burns on her wrists, but no ropes were ever found.
(StLee's story: not Wiki-based) *Springfield Home for the Mentally Unsteady: Records of Lucy Grandchester were removed for some unknown reason from the town that partially became known later as Bradberton after John-Caleb Bradberton had purchased a large portion of the town for his Nuka-Cola Bottling Plant and Nuka-World Theme Park.
Some more mystery about the Springfield Home for the Mentally Unsteady became available after the Great War. There a journal found in a safe from one Gregory Mortimer with dates minus years gave insight to the Lucy saga. Mortimer, through his journal, admitted to being present when Lucy Mortimer died, though he did not believe her hanging was actually a suicide.
From one entry in Mortimer's journal:
"The Boss keeps talking, well, singing to me. 'I said, 'I'm hurt.' She said, 'Honey, let me heal it' /
And we danced all night to a soul fairy band /
And she kissed me just right, like only a lonely angel can /
She felt so nice /
Just as soft as a spirit in the night (all night), in the night (all night).
"'Together we moved like spirits in the night (all night), in the night (all night) /
Oh you don't know what they can do to you /
Spirit in the night (all night), in the night (all night) /
Stand right up and let her shoot through me /
Like spirits in the night (all night), in the night (all night) /
(All night), in the night (all night) /
All night.'
"Boss told me, 'She's the one.' Yes, that's right. She's the one. Yes, that's right. She's the one. Yes, that's right. That's right. That's right. I'm back home, and she's the one. She's the one, and that's right."
The Grandchester Mystery Mansion Renewal
Nate Howard investigated the mansion himself and could find no proof that the spirit there was anything but an imprint. If it is malicious, its power seems to lie in its ability to jump scare guests rather than be able to touch them or harm them. Unless that changes, Howard and Bradberton agreed the strange spirit within would continuously draw tourists.
According to the Nuka-World terminal, "The house is locked, but entry can be obtained from the Protectron ticket taker working just outside the front entrance. Tourists can buy a ticket [from the Protectron].
"This large building features several accessible floors. The tour of the building is linear, often locking the tourist within until the automated announcer finishes describing the current room and asks them to 'please proceed to the next room.' The tour moves through the main floor, right until the kitchen. In the kitchen is a door that leads to the basement. Inside the basement is a door with a bloody scene.
"From the main hall and from the kitchen are three stairs going to the second floor. The doors on the second floor accessible from the main room are all locked and need a key and are opened later as part of the tour. The door accessible through the kitchen is unlocked as it is part of the tour.
"The second floor has several chambers. The first is rigged with gas and was used for seances. The gas can be turned off by using the terminal in the back left corner. The next hallway ends with dead end stairs and the bedroom of the child on the left. Adjacent to the child's bedroom lies the parents' bedroom. In this room is a door that leads to the attic, along with an exit to the building/tour."
