I don't really understand why some of you guys are so emotionally attached to these Native American-themed sports logos and team names. Most of the people you claim you are "honoring" are gone. There were millions in 1491, but the European "explorers" and colnists wiped out practically all of them.

I'm reminded of something I've heard white supremacists say recently: that North America belongs to them "by right of conquest."

Most sports fans are not white supremacists, but they insist on "honoring" the first Americans (whether or not they want to be "honored") in the same way a hunter "honors" the animal he has killed: by making it into a trophy. By hanging its stuffed head on the wall in his den. It was a good fight against a noble and worthy adversary, but now the fight is over and it's time to pay tribute to that defeated adversary. Note that these images of "Indian as noble savage" usually feature him in proud profile (except for the cartoonish image Cleveland has for its baseball team), with feathers in his hair and war paint on his face.

Why don't sports team owners adopt images that celebrate their OWN cultures???

The Native Americans have been robbed of everything else...at least leave them with their dignity.
