I've been languishing in Gold League for a while. I've invested in two Babe Ruths ('27, '23) over the past 20 some seasons and he's been a disappointment just about every season.

The '27 Ruth hit a bunch of home runs, but usually only hit around .230 if I was lucky.

I moved to the '23 Ruth hoping for a better average, but he too has been a disappointment as well. He hit .248 one season, but the other 7 seasons I've had him, his highest average has been .235. And with this Ruth, I don't get near the home runs that the '27 one had. I've got 6 guys on my team right now with at least 19 HR and Ruth only has 14.

Is there something wrong with him? I would have expected at least a couple of really good seasons over 20 that he'd be decent, but it hasn't happened.

I contrast that with my Barry Larkin. Larkin has been doing very well for me. He consistently hits better than Ruth and has hit .280 for the season for me several times. Yet, Larkin's ratings are lower across the board than Ruth's.

What am I missing about identifying players who can hit?
