MY LIFE IN 1954
EC's Scoring More in '54
School is out... 8th Grade has come and gone... looking back on it, it was a really good one... the best that EC would ever have... in the last party of the year at Shirley Britt's house... Shirley was the Queen of the May Festival... she liked me a lot... however, she was just a good friend and a good buddy to me... my heart was elsewhere... I wanted something I could never have -- beautiful and manipulative Judy Flack... as the year progressed I finally realized that Judy just used me to get to Carl V... so at the end of the year my heart turned to her best friend... that cute little lady, Margie Pollard... she was pretty, perky and pleasant to be with... Margie was really a special little lady -- the perfect girlfriend... we finally got together at the last party of the year... Shirley told Margie that I was sweet on her and she told Shirley she was sweet on me, too... so Shirley told me... that's how Margie and I got together at last... and yes, we played Spin the Bottle that night and would you believe it landed on Margie... oh, what a nice, sweet little kiss on the lips it was, standing on the porch amid all the moonlight and magnolia trees in Mobile.
One of the big hit songs of the day was "Sincerely" by the McGwire Sisters... anytime I have ever heard that great song since that time, I always think of Margie... she was a special lady in my life... but just for a little while... our forever love affair only lasted for the Summer of '54... EC loved being on the baseball diamond more that being with cute little Margie... she got tired of play second fiddle to baseball and broke up with me... I realized I let a really nice young lady depart from my life... for the next four years in junior high and high school, I pined for her and mooned for her from afar... always regretting what happened... EC missed his chance of a lifetime... at least, that's what I thought for years... until I got the love of my life, my wife... you see, Jesus already had my life figured out... I think Jesus must be a big baseball fan, at least in the Summer of '54, which was also my best year in baseball.
OK, enough of that lovey dovey and lost love stuff.
It's cuddling time for all you guys and gals and buckaroos and little darlin's, too... grab your sweetheart and get some "TLC"... "tender loving care" as we cuddle up with Christine, Phyliss and Dorothy -- the very talented McGuire Sisters and listen to one of the greatest love songs of all-time from the Golden Year of 1954 -- "Sincerely".
