Dynamo's Struggles Continue

After the All-Star Game the Dynamo's took to the field and picked up where they left off. The Detroit 9 went 2-10 to drop their season record to 26-65 which is 12.5 games worse than any other team in either the FA or CA in FABL. The sad news is they will not even earn the #1 spot in next winters draft as that will go to the worst team in the CA this year. Most likely with that #1 pick will go high school phenom Rufus Barrell II or a hefty heist of another organizations prospect and picks to move up. When we asked Detroit GM Martin if he would consider moving up from the #2 spot recently, he stated that all cards were on the table including even trading down out of the #2 spot if the price were right.

The Dynamo's need help everywhere as they are last in the FABL in pitching ERA and last in most categories on offense in the FA. While there was hope in spring training that the team might compete before the trades of Vance and Wheeler among several others, the pre-season predictions that the Dynamo's were destined for last were likely true even if those trades didn't happen. They would be better, but not nearly enough better. Martin was quoted as saying "it pays to know when you are not good enough to compete for the title. When you realize that early enough you can make adjustments for the future. But on the other hand it also pays to know when to make that extra move whether it gets you to the promised land this year or next, I see too many people not make the moves when they are close. Hoping that their treasures of draft prospects all pan out to be the next Max Morris or Tom Barrell. That's fantasy, but it is the reality for some."

So while the team continues to struggle the revolving door continues to whirl with players coming and going.

Waiver Wire Active is Detroit

The Dynamo's in their continued pursuit for upgrades to help assemble at least a major league team say the team acquire both 2B Slim Ford from Cleveland, who GM Martin picked up earlier this spring before coming to Detroit. There must be something in Ford that Martin sees that others don't. To make room for him recent waiver claim LF Addie Adkins who has hit 235 in 80 PA's since being acquired was DFA. The Dynamo's intend to keep Adkins if he passes through waivers.

Also being picked up this week was RP Don Grossman (for the 2nd time) from the Chicago Cougars. The Dynamo's had claimed him several weeks ago but the Cougars pulled him back. This time he was free to bring his 1-4 4 save record with an ERA over 8 to Detroit where they hope he can develop into a late inning option. He did show promise in Chicago last year posting an ERA of 2.37 in 60 innings of work with the Cougars. So will we see the 1934 version with the 2 ERA or the 1935 version with the 8+ ERA? To make room for Grossman the Dynamo's option P Chuck Mathews to the minors.

Dynamo's make a trade for Moss

Detroit traded minor league 3B Harry Peterson (19) to the Chicago Cougars for AAA OF Howard Moss (29). Moss was hitting 430 at AAA Milwaukee but was hopeless blocked to making it up to the Cougars despite there recent trade of corner OF Lou Kelly to Pittsburgh. Moss will immediately join the big league club in Detroit this week and try to add something to the woeful offense.

Dynamo's GM Says Expect More Moves as we go Forward

Detroit GM Martin has stated that the fans should expect to see more moves as we go forward. He and his front office team are actively scouting players both in the big leagues and in the upper minor leagues to find options for the future and maybe even the present. Martin was quoted as saying that "While the moves before this deadline might not be big moves, we will be active and try to upgrade the team and performance on the field. But our ultimate goal is to begin building for the future so we will not make any trades that jeopardize that by trading any player or picks that we see value in."

There was conversation that the Dynamo's were looking at Brooklyn Kings SP George DeForest in trade but added that the 2 sides could not agree on a deal. While it appears those talks are dead the trade deadline is fast approaching and with the Pittsburgh acquisition of Kelly shows, there might be plenty of moves to be made. The FA race is still pretty wide open 5 teams legitimately still having an opportunity to catch the young, untested St. Louis Pioneers. While the Pioneers are young and untested, they have some great talent and it is what the Dynamo's hope to look like in the future.
