For a field player, if they are only out 10-14 days and are a starter, I will bring them right back if they are needed. Anything longer than 2 weeks, I send them for 3-4 days usually unless it was a long injury or the player isn't a starter.

For a starting pitcher, anytime they are on the DL, I give them a minimum of 1 start in the minors. I check how many innings they threw in that start and make my decision. Often if they have been out for over a month, they are on a pitch limit and only throw 4 innings and I give those players multiple starts.

For a RP, if it's only 2-3 weeks, I usually bring them right back because it could take 5+ days in the minors before they even get in a game. I've found it usually makes no difference for them. However, if they've been out more than a month, I always give them a week or so.

In general, it's always a shorter rehab stint for key players and a longer one for a bench player.
