Create A Player - Sim Career - Take Over As GM

Has anyone ever done the following, and if so, is there any issue to be aware of before investing the time to start this save?

What I’m considering doing in 22, is to, like the title says, create a player (probably in an MLB game), and follow his career along. At some point after his retirement, take over the team he retired as a GM for and use the same name/age. Along the way I may rename other GMs after rival players to mine. Beane became GM of the A’s 9 years after he retired, which I would call extremely quick, but he’s the only data point we have that I’m aware of.

This is a different way to pick a team so to speak, as the usual process is “pick your favorite franchise”, or “pick the team with the worst record”. It randomizes your team to give something different, but not without reason. Pull straws and get to be the Yankees GM out of nowhere? Yea right... But if you retired with them, it would make sense.

I also know this means (especially if you make your player 18 at creation), that most real life players will have retired before I start. This gives the league a fictional component but one that’s still very much tied to the MLB. I primarily play fictional because I get players mixed up with real life, and sometimes feel I’m missing out with all the MLB parks/logos/uniforms.

I may even start this on 21 since updated rosters won’t mean as much to me. These rosters will be at least twenty years deep in the history books before I take over a team. Import to 22 at retirement of my player.

Happy to hear what do y’all think, and am open to suggestions!
