April 2299 - News and Notes - April 23

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

23 April 2299 - Mastodon Rips Nordhagen Beach for 5 Hits

It was a good day for the Bloodbugs at Beantown Brewery Stadium as they clipped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 5-3. It was tremendous day for Tom Mastodon, who was on a hitting barrage at the plate, finishing 5-for-5.

"I don't know what to call that," the County Crossing left fielder told reporters after his big performance. "I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' I just try to keep it simple. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then I hit it. Today I picked up the spin pretty well."

Tom Mastodon doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th. Mastodon's fie hits and three doubles both tied team records.

This season Mastodon is batting .304 with 21 hits, 1 home run, 7 RBIs, no walks, .304 OBP and has scored 8 runs. He has played in 15 games.

Bloodbugs starter Boss Gentleman had to leave the game after just six pitches with an injury to his thumb. Little Jemmy Madison (1-0) won the game in long relief.

Julian Shed (1-2, 5.48) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with four walks and three hits. Jonathan Angelou had three hits for the Party Boys, including a double.

23 April 2299 - Quickwalker, Dwellers Too Much for Knuckle Punchers

Vault 81 and Roxbury got after it at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury.

Vault 81 right fielder Deer Quickwalker made his presence felt in the 9-2 Dwellers triumph over the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers. Quickwalker went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Curt Redcoats, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-2. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 12 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1.

With Vault 81 leading 3-1 in the top of the second, Quickwalker hit a fastball from Tyler Shuster for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Dwellers ahead, 6-1.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Quickwalker.

The Knuckle Punchers fall to 5-10 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2299 season. The Dwellers have now won two straight after breaking a 10-game losing streak.

23 April 2299 - Hancocks Cream Red Rockets, 14-3

Jumper Hayes was a major factor in the 14-3 Goodneighbor win over Jamaica Plain. The Hancocks second baseman went 4 for 5 with 4 singles and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was Quincy Eloquent. He tossed 126 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits. Jamaica Plain falls to 10-5 after dropping two straight to the defending CBO champions.

The game turned with one out in the top of the fifth when Hayes, who led the SCA in wins above replacement with 7.4 last year, hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Hancocks into the lead, 3-2.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Hayes.

23 April 2299 - Ghouls Drop Witch Hats, 6-4, in 10

The 6-4 The Slog win over Salem was due largely to Millioncap Go. The Ghouls center fielder went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The Slog pitcher Tyler Storts got the win, upping his record to 1-2. Dan Beantown got the loss. The win puts The Slog at 11-4.

Go had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 0-1 fastball from Kevin Marsh, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Ghouls a 6-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Go.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Go.

23 April 2299 - Radstags Fall, 6-3, to Tiller, Silver Shroud

Good production from first baseman Jim Tiller helped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topple the Concord Radstags, 6-3. Tiller was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Silver Shroud. Matt Hope, the winner, improved to 4-0. He held the Radstags to 3 runs on 6 hits over 7.2 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The Radstags, at 3-12, have stumbled out of the gate.

Ben Pawlak swatted a 2-run home run for Fort Hagen in the bottom of the third. The center fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and batted in 2.

"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Tiller.

23 April 2299 - Ross Powers Swatters to 8-3 Win

The Diamond City Swatters knocked off the Oberland T-51s, 8-3, at The Great Green Jewel. Tyler Ross was a big reason Diamond City won. The left fielder went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. At 13-2, the Swatters have played well so far, leading the RL now by five games.

With one out in the bottom of the first, Wally Warwick barreled up a fastball from Matt Udder. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the Swatters in front, 4-0.

Warwick told a Diamond City News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
