I think most of that time is eaten up by copying almanacs over. I had a 6-year save that I moved from one laptop to another by simply backing up the game on the old computer and restoring from backup on the 2nd computer and it didn't really take that much time (15 minutes?). What this didn't do was copy the almanacs over, which I did days later and took the better part of a day to copy over to my portable SSD drive, and then took about 30 minutes per almanac to copy from the portable SSD to my new SSD laptop.

So if you just want to relatively quickly move your save to a new machine, just use the backup option and worry about the almanacs later when you have some extra time.
