New Orleans Pelicans (41-55 .427 16.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at

We beat Colby, the all-time loser in the MLB, in June, but only scored 3 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts in 6 innings.

Coreano has not pitched in 18 days and only threw 1 pitch then. June 30 was his last proper start and he gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings in a loss at New Orleans.

With 2 outs, P Danny Coreano grounds a hit up the middle. That does it for P Bill Colby. New Pitcher: Jesus Torres (27-R), who is 6-6 with a 4.13 ERA in 98 IP with 14 starts. Tony Weninger grounds a hit up the middle. Cal Doty grounds one to 2nd, but Chuck Corrigan throws the ball away for a 2-base error and P Coreano scores! The second error of the day for Corrigan! 6 to 0, Jays! Fernando Tello draws a walk to load the bases up with 2 outs. Ray McDonald beats out an infield hit and Weninger scores! 7 to 0, Jays!

Top of the Sixth
Franklin Sanchez grounds a triple over the 1st base bag, the first hit of the game for the Pelicans.... Tim Dawson flies out to deep center and Sanchez tags up and scores. 7 to 1, Jays. Jay Kegler hits a home run to left... 7 to 2, Jays.

Bottom of the Sixth
Cal Doty bloops a hit over the shortstop! When you're hot, you're hot! With 2 outs, Jack Washburn grounds one to 1st, but Jay Kegler tosses the ball over the pitcher's head for a 2-base error! A wild pitch scores Doty! 8 to 2, Jays!

T.R. Hunter doubles to left center! That does it for P Jesus Torres. New Pitcher: Victor Espinoza (40-R), the ex-Jay, now just a shadow of his old 3-time All-Star self. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings against us yesterday. Bob Hutson draws a walk. P Danny Coreano bunts one foul with 2 strikes... Tony Weninger lines out to 2nd and they double Hunter off....

Top of the Eighth
With 1 out, Franklin Sanchez beats out an infield hit. Tim Dawson bloops a hit to right... The Bullpen gets up. Jay Kegler grounds out to 1st, 3-1, and the runners move up. Victor Ocasio takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 to load the bases up with 2 outs. Call to the Bullpen: Mike Hollenbeck (23-R). Chuck Corrigan draws a walk to force in a run... 8 to 3, Jays. Wes Fitzgibbons draws another walk... 8 to 4, Jays. Call to the Bullpen: 2-time All-Star Bill Grant (34-L). Jim Brister grounds a hit to left and 2 runs score.... 8 to 6, Jays. Niel Williams doubles to right and another run scores... 8 to 7, Jays. PH Jerry Rafanello (34-S), the 2-time All-Star, who started the inning off with a harmless ground out, pops out to 2nd!

The Bullpen gets up. We were up, 7 to 0, before the Pelicans ever had a hit... Tim Dawson strikes out! Jay Kegler beats out an infield hit... Victor Ocasio walks on 4 pitches to load the bases up with 1 out.... Chuck Corrigan swings at a 3-2 pitch and misses! Wes Fitzgibbons, the 2-time All-Star, flies out to center and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Jays!

Danny Coreano (W 5-5) went 7.2 innings, allowed 5 runs, 4 hits, 1 home run, 4 walks and struck out 4. He threw a WP. 107 pitches. At bat, he had 2 hits and scored a run.
RHP Mike Hollenbeck faced 2 batters, walked them both and they both scored.
LHP Bill Grant (SV 23), with the ugliest Save ever, went 1.1 scoreless innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. He ties the Jay record for Saves in a season (his own, last season).

Bill Colby (L 4-6) went 3.2 innings, gave us 6 runs (4 earned), 9 hits, 2 home runs, no walks and struck out 3.

2B Tony Weninger had 2 hits with a triple and scored 3 runs. CF/LF Cal Doty had 3 hits with his 7th home run of the season and 3rd in as many games, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBI. RF Fernando Tello had a hit and a walk. LF/RF Ray McDonald had 2 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI. 1B Jack Washburn hit his 8th home run and had 2 RBI. SS T.R. Hunter had 2 hits with a double. C Bob Hutson hit a double and drew a walk.

For New Orleans, RF Franklin Sanchez had 2 hits with a triple, drew a walk and scored 2 runs. 1B Jay Kegler had 2 hits with his 12th home run.

Fun Fact: Cal Doty was named the Star of the Game by the Jays' Radio Announcers for the 3rd straight game, the first time any Jay has been so honored!
