P Danny Coreano has not healed up in time to make the start today, so we put him on the DL, retroactively, and called up Dave Buchalter (27-R) to make the start. He is 0-1 with a 7.62 ERA in 13 IP for the Jays with 10 walks allowed this season, but he is the only starting pitcher pitching decently for Daytona Beach (A). He is 6-4 with a 2.69 ERA in 12 starts for them and is only walking 2.8 per 9 innings with 7.1 strikeouts. The next best ERA in the Admirals' rotation is 4.46....

We are in Hartford to play the Whalers a 4 game series and finish up our season series with them. They lost 3 of 4 here to Orlando over the weekend. We won 3 of 4 in Jacksonville, May 5-8, but they outscored us in the series, 17 to 16. They are 9th in scoring with 3.90 runs per game (Jacksonville is #7 with 4.15). The Whalers are 15th in fewest runs allowed with 4.73 per game (Jacksonville is hanging in there at #2 with 3.45). Their run differential is -75, the worst in the MLB, and ours is +65, now 2nd best to Ottawa (+93).

Jacksonville Jays (55-37 .598 2.5 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) at
Hartford Whalers (34-56 .378 19.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the Northern Division)

JAX: Dave Buchalter (27-R) (0-1 7.62 ERA 13 IP, 12 H, 0 HR, 10 BB, 8 SO)
HART: Wil Guerrero (26-R) (0-7 7.53 ERA 49 IP, 71 H, 3 HR, 32 BB, 24 SO) Rookie

Buchalter last started a game for the Jays on April 30. He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks with 6 strikeouts in 7 innings in a no decision that we won at Memphis in 10 innings. He has won his last 6 starts for Daytona Beach (A) and the last time he took the mound was in the American Association All-Star Game, where he pitched a scoreless inning, with a hit allowed and a strikeout.

We have never faced Guerrero before, but are looking forward to it!
