11 August 2298 - BMU: Lifegivers Win, Fireman goes 4-for-5
Union Hope center fielder Merv Fireman contributed to his team's 9-4 win over the Breakheart Banks Behemoths. Fireman, who is tied for 5th in the CA in stolen bases with 9, went 4 for 5 with 3 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Lifegivers. Josh Warner picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Kitty Steppe was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Lifegivers upped their record to 34-31.
The Lifegivers got an important contribution from shortstop Frank Hermit, who in the bottom of the fourth knocked a 1-2 curveball into right for a run-scoring double. It was his 5th double of the season and put the Lifegivers ahead, 6-4.
"We maximized our offense today," said Union Hope skipper Greg Tannenbaum. "That makes everyone's life easier."
11 August 2298 - BMU: Hawkins Slugs Rayguns to 12-8 Win
A good performance from left fielder Ben Hawkins helped the Cabot House Rayguns defeat the Eastlake Aquaboys, 12-8. Hawkins went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 7 for the Rayguns. The win gives Cabot House a season record of 35-30.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Steve Mech came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Eastlake pitcher Homie Foster, he hit a 0-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cabot House on top, 9-8.
"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said Hawkins. "Those qualities define our team."
11 August 2298 - BMU: Hughey Hits 2 home runs in Snipers Win
The Trinity Plaza Snipers bested the Natick Banks Big Leaguers by a score of 8-4, with center fielder Bobby Hughey getting the main credit. On the day, Hughey hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for the Snipers. Josh Dude, who went 9 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 5 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 1-0. The win for the Snipers lifted their record to 37-28.
Trinity Plaza used a well-timed hit by Jared Tech to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Snipers ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Tech said after the game.
11 August 2298 - Mole Rats Top Commandos, 3-0, Behind Poole
Left-hander Whokill Poole mesmerized the Haymarket Mall Commandos while leading the Forest Grove Mole Rats to a 3-0 victory. At 28-37, the Mole Rats are currently last in the Massachusetts Association Glowing Sea League.
Poole, a native of Bradberton, Massachusetts, was dealing all game. He kept Haymarket Mall hitters off-balance, while giving the Mole Rats 8 quality innings. Poole threw 139 pitches, allowing 1 hit and striking out 11.
"Nervous? No," said Poole. "It was my time to shine."
