Thanks for sharing this, Brad K. It prompts me to share something I have been mulling over about replays lately. I am a long time sports simulation game player. APBA cards and dice beginning in 1969 and many other computer games over the years since. I have been playing OOTP since 13, but never historical until recently. The old school games were always measured by their realism, as in, are the stats generated as close as possible to what happened in real life? I have to admit, I find myself kind of wondering more and more what is the point of that? With OOTP I have played fictional and current startups and love the experience of not know how it's going to turn out.
For years I have thought about what would be my ideal OOTP setup for a historic replay, but it took me until just a couple months ago to actually do it. My old school brain is so conflicted. For my '72 replay I am the GM for all 24 teams, setting lineups, making roster moves. I agonize over calling up some guy from the minors who in real life didn't make his major league debut until September roster expansion. And guys who are raking at AAA but never played in the majors? Ugh!
Anyhow, just thought I would share. Seeing your post, especially the side-by-side with the real-life stats, has me thinking that might be kind of fun. Maybe I should just let go of my old school thinking and let OOTP development take me for a ride.
