Yesterday, we Mike Marsh's 24th birthday!
LF Norm Mayer (29-L) has been cleared to play by Trudy the Trainer, so he was activated from the DL and LF Danny Stewart (34-L) was sent back to Daytona Beach (A). Mayer cannot hit a lick (career .210 BA), but he is better in center than anyone else we have now, except Gary McKellar (35-R).
We are in Birmingham to play the Barons a 4 game series through the weekend. They won a pair of games here against Charlotte on Monday and Tuesday. We were 11-3 against them last year when they finished 70-92 in last place in the South. They are 3rd in scoring with 4.47 runs per game (Jacksonville is floundering and down to a tie for 7th with 4.00). They are only hitting .241, but are 2nd in HR with 15. Jacksonville is only hitting .234 now and is tied for 3rd with 14 HR. The Barons are last in fewest runs allowed with 4.93 per game (Jacksonville is now #2 with 2.67). Syracuse is #1 with 2.53. Birmingham's run differential is -7, 11th in the MLB, and ours is +20, still 2nd to Ottawa (+21).
Jacksonville Jays (9-6 .600 0 GA tied for 1st place in the Southern Division) at
Birmingham Barons (6-9 .400 3 GB tied for 6th (last) place in the Southern Division)
