We are down in Orlando to play a short 2 game set. The Juice lost 2 of 3 here to Richmond over the weekend. We were 10-4 against them last season when they finished 80-82 in 4th place in the South. They are 11th in scoring with 3.77 runs per game (Jacksonville is tied for 6th with 3.92). The Juice were 4th in scoring last year with 700 runs and there is no reason to think they won't be among the MLB leaders by the end of the season this year. They are tied for 13th in fewest runs allowed with 4.62 per game (Jacksonville is now tied for 1st with Louisville with 2.38) Their run differential is -11, tied for 11th best, and ours is +20, now 2nd to Ottawa (+21).
Fun Fact: We were 35-12 (.745) in 1-run games last season. This year we have not played a 1-run game yet, the only team not to.
Jacksonville Jays (8-5 .615 0 GA tied for 1st place in the Southern Division) at
Orlando Juice (5-8 .385 3 GB tied for 6th place in the Southern Division)
JAX: Al Calice (24-R) (0-0 5.59 ERA 9.2 IP, 11 H, 0 HR, 7 BB, 7 SO)
ORL: Ray Berres (26-R) (A Ball: 0-1 15.43 ERA 2.1 IP, 6 H, 1 HR, 2 BB, 0 SO)
Calice allowed 4 runs on 9 hits and no walks with 6 strikeouts in 7 innings last time out in a no decision that we won with a 4-run 8th.
Berres was injured in Spring Training and is making his season debut today after one rehab start that did not go very well. We was 3-8 with a 3.55 ERA in 16 starts and 104 IP last year and 3-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 8 starts and 54.2 IP in 2003. We have only faced him once before and beat him, but only scored 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts on 7 innings.
