The Louisville Colonels are here to play a 3 game series over the weekend. They just split 4 games at home with Rochester and just made a big trade for an ace starter yesterday. Fortunately, he should not see his debut with the Colonels until after they leave town. We were 11-3 against them last year when they finished 80-80 in 3rd place in the South. They are tied for 12th in scoring so far with 3.20 runs per game (Jacksonville is 6th with 4.60). 4.60 is more than we scored last year when we finished 3rd in runs. Scoring is up in the MLB in the early going. The Colonels are 2nd in fewest runs allowed (before their newest ace has pitched at all) with 2.60 per game (Jacksonville, with an MLB leading 3 shutouts is 1st with 1.80). Here is an oddity: Birmingham is last in runs allowed, but 1st in CG. Louisville's run differential is +6, tied for 4th best, and our is +28, easily the best! Ottawa is 2nd at +18 and no one else is in double digits.
Louisville Colonels (4-6 .400 4 GB tied for 5th place in the Southern Division) at
Jacksonville Jays (8-2 .800 2 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division)
LOU: Tommy Corris (24-R) (0-1 3.00 ERA 15 IP, 14 H, 2 HR, 3 BB, 5 SO) All-Star
JAX: Del Warwick (30-L) (1-1 2.77 ERA 13 IP, 15 H, 1 HR, 1 BB, 9 SO) Gold Glove(02)
Corris is their #1 starter, even after the trade for Eli Kyzar, who they are slotting at #3. Corris was 17-11 with a 2.67 ERA in 245.2 IP last year and 13-12 with a 2.94 ERA in 2003. He is 3-3 in 9 starts against the Jays in his career with a 4.04 ERA. 62.1 IP, 60 H, 4 HR, 16 BB, 37 SO.
Warwick gave up 2 runs on 7 hits, 1 home run and no walks with 3 strikeouts in 7 innings last time out in a win.

Top of the First
Al Graves grounds out to 2nd. Ray Lovell lines out to 2nd. Jose Castillo swings at a 3-2 pitch and pops out to 2nd! 1-2-3! That's about all you can do to 2nd!
Bottom of the First
Jack Washburn pops out to 3rd. Fernando Tello strikes out looking.... Ray McDonald strikes out looking....
Top of the Fifth
Barry Ward grounds a hit to right... P Tommy Corris, in a scoreless game, swings away and grounds one to 1st, but Jack Washburn boots it... Al Graves grounds a hit up the middle and Ward beats the throw home.... 1 to 0, Colonels. And Dickie Stemen is hurt making the futile throw..... Gary McKellar (35-R) is in to play center. Ray Lovell grounds into a 3-6-1 double play!!
Bottom of the Fifth
Bob Hutson lines his second double of the game to left (our only 2 hits so far) and goes to 3rd on a ground out. With the infield in, Bart Daw grounds out to 1st, unassisted, and Hutson holds.... Gary McKellar grounds out to short....
Bottom of the Eighth:
With 1 out, PH Dave Estey (23-L) beats out an infield hit, his first in the MLB! But that is all we get.
Top of the Ninth
New Pitcher: All-Star Albert Davies (28-L). Charlie Faber (34-R) is in to play 2nd and Danny Rosas (26-L), who pinch-hit unsuccessfully last inning, stays in to play right. Ray McDonald moves to center. Alan Douglas walks on 4 pitches... The Bullpen gets up. With 1 out, Douglas steals 2nd. With 2 outs, Barry Ward grounds the first pitch to right for a hit and Douglas scores... 2 to 0, Colonels.
Bottom of the Ninth
P Tommy Corris is at 100 pitches. Top of our order up. Jack Washburn grounds out to 1st, unassisted... Fernando Tello pops out to left... Ray McDonald, whose BA is down to .250 now, strikes out for the third time today........... Under .250 now....
Lost - 2 to 0
We had 3 whole hits and made 1 error
Louisville had 5 hits (all singles) and made no errors
Del Warwick (L 1-2) went 8 innings, allowed 1 run, 4 hits, 4 walks and struck out 5.
LHP Albert Davies went 1 inning, allowed 1 run, 1 hit and 1 walk.
Tommy Corris (W 1-1) pitched 9 shutout innings (CG), gave us 3 hits, no walks and struck out 9. 111 pitches.
C Bob Hutson hit 2 doubles. PH Dave Estey had an infield hit, the first hit of his MLB career.
For Louisville, #8 hitter, 2B Barry Ward went 3 for 3 with a walk, scored a run and had an RBI.
Trudy's report on Dickie Stemen is strained triceps that should bother him for about a month, she thinks. Which means two months, if you go by her recent estimates....
