The final game of the regular season. 110 wins would be nice!
Jacksonville Jays (109-52 .677 21 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) at
Louisville Colonels (80-81 .497 29 GB tied for 3rd place in the Southern Division)

Top of the First
Charlie Faber, who has gone all cold, grounds out to 3rd. Now 2 for his last 24... Cal Doty strikes out.... Fernando Tello swings at the first pitch and pops out to short....
Bottom of the First
Ken DeMinico strikes out! Graham Carr is up and I would not mind seeing a bean ball right now.... But we do not get one and he grounds one to 3rd and Tom McDowell boots it.... Ron Lerche swings at a 3-2 pitch and McDowell makes up for his error by starting a 5-4-3 double play!!
Top of the Second
Ray McDonald draws a walk. Tom McDowell strikes out for the 100th time this season.... Jack Washburn, who has 104 strikeouts in a lot fewer at bats, hits a home run to right!! 2 to 0, Jays!
Bottom of the Second
Alan Douglas grounds a hit to right. Dick Pavlov knocks the first pitch over the wall in left center for a home run.... Tie Game: 2 to 2.
Top of the Fifth
Jack Washburn takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Bart Daw grounds into a force at 2nd, 5-4. Bert Swope grounds a hit to right and Daw heads to 3rd, but RF Ray Lovell throws the ball into the dugout for an error and Daw scores! 3 to 2, Jays! P Dale Gilchrist bloops a hit to right! Charlie Faber grounds into a force at 2nd, 6-4, but they cannot turn the double play and Swope scores. 4 to 2, Jays!
Top of the Seventh
Jack Washburn draws another walks and Bart Daw doubles to left! With the infield in, Bert Swope grounds out to 2nd and the runners hold. P Dale Gilchrist will be allowed to bat, but then will be relieved in the bottom of the inning. He has had a solid outing and has secured the #4 spot in the rotation for the Millennial Cup. We want to get our relievers some work, as they have been idle for a while. Gilchrist grounds out to 2nd and the runners hold.... Charlie Faber, who would be pinch-hit for if this game were important, strikes out looking....
Bottom of the Ninth
New Pitcher: 2-time All-Star Bill Grant (34-L). 4-5-6 up for the Colonels. Alan Douglas grounds out to 3rd. Dick Pavlov lines a 2-2 pitch to center for a hit... The Bullpen is stirring. Jamie Hawley grounds out to short and Pavlov goes to 2nd, Bart Daw making a nice play! Ed Ruiz lines a 2-2 pitch to right for a hit.... Ray Lovell pops out to center and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Jays!
Won - 4 to 2
Sweep!
110 wins!!
We finish the season series with Louisville 11-3!
Tied for the best record ever against a team in the South (Birmingham this year)!
We were 4-10 against them last year and this is the 1st time we have won the season series!
We had 6 hits and made 2 errors
Louisville had 7 hits and made 2 errors
Dale Gilchrist (W 11-10) went 6 innings, allowed 2 runs, 4 hits, 1 home run, no walks and struck out 4. At bat, he had a hit and finishes the season with a .446 BA! He should get a Silver Bat this year!
LHP Albert Davies (H 10) went 1 scoreless inning and allowed a hit.
RHP Bob Craig (H 3) pitched a perfect inning.
LHP Bill Grant (SV 23) pitched a scoreless 9th and allowed 2 hits.
Ken DeWaters (L 13-13) went 7 innings, gave us 4 runs, 4 hits, 1 home run, 3 walks and struck out 4.
1B Jack Washburn hit his 16th home run of the season, drew 2 walks and had 2 RBI. SS Bart Daw hit a double and scored a run. LF Danny Stewart had a hit in his only at bat.
For Louisville, C Dick Pavlov had 3 hits with his 13th home run and had 2 RBI.
We finish the season 63-35 (.643) against the South.
We were 47-17 (.734) against the North.
It is the first time we have had a winning season against either division.
Last year, we were exactly .500 against each.
We were 35-12 (.745) in 1-run games this season!
Even if we went 23-24, though, we still win the division by 10 games.
We were 29-16 (.644) against lefties this year, the best record in the MLB!
We had the most wins and fewest losses against both lefties and righties!
We had the best record in the MLB before the All-Star break (58-29 .667).
We had the best record in the MLB after the All-Star break (52-23 .693).
We end up with a +202 run differential!
Syracuse was 2nd best at +117.
We were 'only' 48-33 (.593) at home and went 62-19 (.765) on the road!
Wow!
We should offer to play all the games of the Millennial Cup in Syracuse!
We went 1-3 against the Sycamores at home and 4-0 in Syracuse.
