As of this posting, Tate Redinger has 142 at bats with 25 runs scored, 10 homers, 21 RBI's... batting average of .246 and OBP of .306

Al Stanton was happy as an agent as he added a few clients this year on the baseball diamond, through Tate Redinger Al was able to get Tate's rookie teammates Alex Arias and Ron Diorio and he got another Long Island kid named Nat Hicks who is a catcher for Guadalajara.

Today he was checking in by phone on Tate. Tate was in Des Moines as the Toronto Blue Jays were in town.

"Hey Al, what is up" Tate picked up the phone

"Just checking on my first client. I see you hit your 10th homer the other day in Richmond"

"Yeah, I have hit 10 balls out in under 150 at bats, but I can't get burn on a bad baseball team"

Al paused and thought "I think 10 homers in a rookie season without spending time in the minors is a huge accomplishment"

"Accomplishment maybe back in 1993, but we have 72 teams in the league and it is expanding more and more"

Tate argued his case. The MLB was expanding to 96 teams for the 2023 season and 108 for the 2024 season. That would be the end of expansion.

"I would look at expansion as a blessing as the pay rates are the same so there are a lot of guys who are getting a chance"

Tate sighed "But I think I am in a cul de sac. I can't get drafted by a new team now where I would be a starter and I doubt anyone is drafting off the Des Moines roster, so I am stuck on this bench"

"But look at it the other way, they drafted you and you went to the majors, other teams would have you buried on the farm probably. Maybe you will get traded but I think you will develop best in Des Moines as they seem to like you a lot. Who knows maybe they deal Clemente he has less homers than you playing every day. They can trade him on potential"

"I guess" Tate replied, "I am just looking forward to being in Montauk in a month, have had no time to recollect my thoughts. I guess I was stunned I was drafted and that i got to the show right away. But as time has gone by I feel like I belong in the big leagues and it is hard to sit in the dugout each game and expect not to be used"

"Do you like Des Moines"

"It ain't bad, but I would not settle down there. We travel so much I barely know my way around the place. I guess if I spent the offseason there I would adjust, but I won't do that. There is no guarantee I will be there next year. Tate responded.

"How has the dating life been" Al changed the topic

"Kind of non existent, I am away a lot. I have met some one nighters on the road. You can play a game in Kansas City and be noticed more than your own hometown. But at the end of the day, I am tired a lot of the time. I think when the league was 30 teams and homestands were 10 games that I would adapt but we are on planes a lot of the time"

Al brought up Nat Hicks. "Remember Nat Hicks is playing in Guadalajara it could be worse"

"Nat Hicks? He is lucky to have a job. And I heard that he has girlfriend in Mexico now"

"All true, but I mean he doesn't speak Spanish, and has a hard time digesting that kind of food and he seems happy"

Tate understood "I guess playing every day would give you a sense of swagger that I don't have right now. I can't accept being on the bench. Jim Kelly sucks and he plays leftfield, I can learn that position over his sub .200 bat in the lineup just because he was the Buffalo QB"

"The Kelly acquisition was pure publicity I get it. Look at the bright side, this is just your first year and now teams can see you on paper and maybe you get traded, maybe a team was impressed by what they saw, you had that 7 RBI game"

"That was the best feeling ever" Tate smiled "I could not wait to go online and see that boxscore, it was an amazing feeling"

Al was happy to have landed there "Just relive that day in your mind and you will see great things, I am confident"
