Top of the First
Jimmy Reed doubles to center.... Well, the hope for a No-No today did not last long.... Juan Duarte pops out to right. Gus Milam grounds a hit to left and Reed scores... And there goes the hope for a Shutout... Tom Spiess, the sub-200 hitting lefty bloops a hit to left... And the hope for a win is fading fast... Kim Byrne gets beaned with a 3-2 pitch and the bases are loaded with 1 out... T.R. Hunter walks to force in a run.... 2 to 0, Steamrollers. Tom Fogle strikes out on 3 pitches. Darrell Oveson pops out to to right.
Bottom of the First
Charlie Faber swings at the first pitch and lines out to the pitcher... Tommy Adams swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds out to 2nd... Our Ace is getting shelled and their old washed up fart is going to shut us out.... Fernando Tello grounds out to 3rd....
Bottom of the Third
P Jim Baucom and Charlie Faber lead off with back to back hits! Tommy Adams grounds a hit to right and P Baucom heads home and gets thrown out by Tom Spiess...... I don't think our 3rd base coach, Theo, even pays attention to who the runners are.... Sending a pitcher home on what might be a close play with no outs is just utterly stupid.... And that play was not even close.... Fernando Tello grounds into a force at 2nd, 3-6, and Faber goes to 3rd. Cal Doty flies out to left.... 3 straight hits to start the inning and we get no runs....
Bottom of the Fourth
Tom McDowell knocks the first pitch over the left field wall! 2 to 1, Steamrollers. His first home run in 3 weeks! And it is home run #22, which sets a new Jay record!
Bottom of the Sixth
With 1 out, Cal Doty beats out an infield hit and goes to 2nd on a wild pitch. Tom McDowell grounds one to short, but T.R. Hunter makes a bad throw for an error! McDowell gets caught stealing.... Why are we so utterly stupid?!!! Danny Stewart pops out to left...
Top of the Seventh
Tom Fogle grounds a 3-2 pitch over the 3rd base bag for a double.... The first hit for the Steamrollers since they had 3 in the 1st.... The Bullpen gets up. This will be P Baucom's final inning, one way or another... He is at 101 pitches. Darrell Oveson grounds a 2-2 pitch over the 1st base bag for a double and Fogle scores... 3 to 1, Steamrollers. P Jim Riggs bunts the runner to 3rd. Call to the Bullpen: Robbie Hopley (30-R). Ray McDonald and his bruised wrist are in to play left in a double switch. Jimmy Reed strikes out looking! Juan Duarte grounds out to short!
Top of the Eighth
With 1 out, Tom Spiess draws a walk. The Bullpen gets up. Kim Byrne grounds a hit to left... With 2 outs, Tom Fogle swings at the first pitch and doubles to left center and Spiess scores.... 4 to 1, Steamrollers. This game looked like walkover for us on paper....
Bottom of the Ninth
New Pitcher: Jim Gibson (32-R), their closer, who is 7-9 with 18 SV and a 3.21 ERA in 84 IP. Tom McDowell walks on 4 pitches. PH Mike Volkman (36-L) whacks the first pitch down the right field line and over the wall for a home run!! 4 to 3, Steamrollers. I should have saved him until 2 runners were on.... PH Dave Thompson (28-R) lines out to center... Bert Swope grounds a 3-2 pitch to left for a double! Ray McDonald strikes out... Charlie Faber grounds out to 3rd....
