20 May 2298 - Macn Almost Bacn
Lexington Synths second baseman Greg Macn suffered an unspecified but not life-threatening injury in a run-in with a behemoth on the team's trip to Sunshine Tidings.
While the behemoth was put out to desert as it infringed on occupied land, Macn was forced to make a detour towards Cambridge to Kendall Hospital. He is expected to miss several games, which will leave the Synths' thin infield thinner.
Macn, the seventh hitter in the lineup, is batting .297 (third on the team) with two home runs and 17 RBI (also third). Backup shortstops Swift Atomcat or Frank Hermit may take Macn's place, but there is a possibility Union Hope starting second baseman T.J. Craighead could be called up.
20 May 2298 - Malone Pitches Deathclaws to 6-0 Win
Quentin Malone called it a "mixture of smarts and luck," but whatever the combination, it added up to a complete game shutout of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets.
The University Point Deathclaws right-hander blanked the Red Rockets 6-0 at Red Rockets Stadium today, allowing 2 hits and collecting 6 strikeouts. He walked 2.
In 9 starts this season, Malone has fashioned a 4-4 record and a 4.34 ERA.
Bernie Gonzalez led the Deathclaws in hits with three. He scored two runs and drove in a run in five at-bats. Aaron Nukacola hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot, in the 2nd inning.
20 May 2298 - Beerholder Throws 2-0 Shutout
Danny Beerholder kept the Synths from doing any damage to the Chemists today at ArcJet Systems Stadium. Lexington's 3 hits, all singles, and 1 walk came to naught as Sunshine Tidings took the contest 2-0. Beerholder added 9 strikeouts in his complete-game effort.
This year Beerholder has a 4-2 mark in 9 starts with a 3.84 ERA. He has given up 65 hits in 65.2 innings, struck out 58 and issued 14 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .259 batting average against him.
Lexington was already down a hitter after second baseman Greg Macn was injured by a behemoth last night when the Synths traveled to Sunshine Tidings. Swift Atomcat, who replaced Macn in the lineup, went 0 for 3.
20 May 2298 - Cuttooth Helps Goodneighbor Cruise to 11-1 Win
Goodneighbor shortstop Burtie Cuttooth played a vital role in his team's 11-1 triumph over Atom. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 for Goodneighbor. The current losing streak for Atom has reached 4 games.
With Goodneighbor leading 8-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Cuttooth came up to bat against Atom pitcher Bobby Fairline. Cuttooth hit a fastball to left for a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Hancocks on top, 11-0.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Cuttooth told the Goodneighbor Times. "It's as simple as that."
20 May 2298 - Silver Shroud Bridle Lady Killers, 4-2
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and Starlight Lady Killers.
Fort Hagen picked up a win at Hubris Comics Park, toppling the Starlight Lady Killers, 4-2. Pitcher Joey Dimes was one of the reasons the Silver Shroud triumphed. Dimes picked up the win for Fort Hagen, going 6 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 3-6. Curtis Thriceshot was called on to finish, recording his 10th save.
Micah Morals, who is tied for 6th in the NCA in bases on balls with 17, aided the Fort Hagen cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the third baseman went 1 for 2 with 2 walks.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Dimes.
The win boosted Fort Hagen to 18-15.
20 May 2298 - Ghouls Top Nordhagen Beach, 2-1, in 14-inning Duel
The The Slog Ghouls had to overcome a good performance from Nordhagen Beach pitcher Tommy Beach to claim a 2-1 win at Tarberry Field Forever. Beach went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. The Ghouls, at 15-18, sit in 5th place in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League.
The Ghouls procured the win, in large part because of first baseman Nick Homebody. In the bottom of the 14th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single of Boys pitcher Jason Vaultick.
"We were in it," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. "We just didn't score enough runs."
Each team traded a run in the first inning before the final run was scored in the 14th. Nordhagen Beach's Night Demon Archaki and The Slog's Wonder Boy Fultz each threw three shutout innings. The Ghouls' starter, Edwin Mass, allowed just one earned run on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 8.0 innings.
Dustin Mart hit his 12th home run of the season to knock in the Party Boys' only run. Ryan Combs also added a double for the other extra-base hit. The Slog's 10 hits were all singles. Lernz Tentsleep drove in the Ghouls' first-inning run on an RBI single.
