I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but every save seems to follow a pattern.

I almost always play in the SHL or KHL. First season is okay and close to expectations up until the end of the season. The last 10 games are always a ****show and I just barely make the playoffs where the bad trend continues and I lose. Next season always starts out really well and I'm among the best teams. Midway through the season my team goes on a losing streak (On my current save I went from second place to 12th in the SHL after I lost 9 games in a row). I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong. My team is almost always considered favourites ahead of the season and then they just play like crap.

I have a strong team which consists of mostly 2,5-3 stars. A couple of 3,5 and a few 2s. I try to build the team around two strong scoring lines with the tactics to match, thrid line is checking or scoring and 4th is checking. Defenders I try to pair one who is a slightly bit more offensive and one defensive. Third pair is a shutdown pair. I try to have one goalie who is among the best in the league and a solid backup.

Recently I started a new NHL save, which is also going really bad. I'm in my 6th year and have only reached the playoffs once, despite having a strong team the last 3-4 seasons. I look at the other teams who seem to just randomly throw players around on their lines and are doing great. Skill-wise my team should be one of the best in the league.

The biggest problem seems to be shots on my goalie, which is sometimes as low as 15 but on occassions get close to 60 (!?). I try to adjust my tactics so they match the line's strengths.

What the heck am I doing wrong? What am I missing?
