Today is Dennis Brown's 30th birthday!

We are in Louisville to play the Colonels a short 2 game set. They split 4 games at Charlotte over the weekend. We were 4-10 against them last year when they finished 84-78 in 3rd place in the South. They were the only team in the South that we had a losing record against. They are 12th in scoring with 3.79 runs per game (Jacksonville is #11 with 3.89). We have scored 2 more runs than they have. They are last in the MLB in hitting at .234, but 2nd in walks (69). We are hitting better than average (.263), but are 2nd to last in walks (49). The Colonels are 13th in fewest runs allowed with 4.58 per game (Jacksonville is #1 with 2.79!). Their run differential is -15, 2nd worst in the MLB, and ours with +21, the 3rd best. Only 4 teams are positive right now.

Jacksonville Jays (11-8 .579 0 GA tied for 1st place in the Southern Division) at
Louisville Colonels (9-10 .474 2 GB in 4th place in the Southern Division)

JAX: Jim Baucom (22-L) (4-0 0.80 ERA 33.2 IP, 26 H, 0 HR, 5 BB, 23 SO) All-Star(2: 02-03) vs.
LOU: Tommy Corris (24-R) (2-2 1.63 ERA 27.2 IP, 23 H, 2 HR, 5 BB, 22 SO)

Baucom gave up 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts in 8.1 innings last time out in a win.

Corris, who was the #6 overall pick in the 2002 B Leagues Draft when Baucom was #1, is their #1 starter. He was 13-12 with a 2.94 ERA in 251 IP last year. He is 2-0 in 5 starts against the Jays in his career with a 2.31 ERA. 39 IP, 29 H, 1 HR, 11 BB, 19 SO.

Top of the Third
With 1 out, P Jim Baucom lines our first hit of the game to center and then P Tommy Corris balks him to 2nd. Leander Gooding grounds a hit up the middle and our idiot 3rd base coach, who has been expressly told to never send any of our pitchers if the play seems it might remotely be close, waves P Jim Baucom enthusiastically home, where he finds the ball waiting for him on a a platter..... At least he was not hurt...

Top of the Fourth

PH Dave Thompson (28-R) walks on 4 pitches. With 2 outs, Ray McDonald grounds one to short, but Graham Carr boots it and the bases are loaded with 2 outs. Carr's first error of the season. Tom McDowell flies out to deep center...

Bottom of the Eighth

New Pitcher: Dave Nini (26-L). Jim Hess stays in to catch and Junior Danielson (32-R) is in to play 3rd. PH Ernie Mitchell (24-L), a rookie, who is 3 for 12 (.250) with an RBI on the season and in his career, hits a home run to right... 8 to 3, Jays. Pia! A train ticket! The Bullpen is up.
