SOUTH ISLAND BASEBALL AWARDS ANNOUNCED
The South Island First and Second Leagues put the finishing touches on the 1953 season with the awarding of the Most Valuable Player and Golden Glove trophies... the top players were Bobby Taylor of the St. Dominic Saints in the SI First League and Duke Rabouin of the Bar Harbor Acadians in the SI Second League.
SAINTS' TAYLOR VOTED MVP IN SIFL
St. Dominic's superb center fielder Bobby Taylor was acclaimed the 1953 South Island First League Most Valuable Player... Taylor was a dynamo racing like wildfires through the league... the 23-year-old Taylor topped the league with a .413 batting average, 32 runs and 23 stolen bases, while coming in second with 22 RBIs and third in roundtrippers with 5... despite his great season the Saints came up one game short of winning the pennant, falling to the Guedon Gators in a sudden-death playoff game.
