1931 Offseason
In honour of retired Canadiens goalie Zack Boutin's retirement, the league has announced the creation of the Zack Boutin Trophy (shortened to the Boutin Trophy) awarded each year to the best Goaltender in the league. Boutin spent all his career with the Montreal Canadiens and played in various other professional leagues before playing in the National Hockey League.
In other news the Quebec Voyageurs have been sold to a group of American investors based in Baltimore. The team had been struggling financially for multiple seasons and with the great depression kicking in they had no choice but to sell or fold. The team has been named the Baltimore Orioles and they will be playing in the newly built 8,000 seated Baltimore Arena.
The Toronto Marlboros have moved into the newly built Maple Leaf Gardens! With a 12,000 seat capacity it is one of the largest new arenas in the league.

The New York Huskies have struggled in the standings and have been a financial burden compared to the New York Rangers, due to this the team may have to sell or fold. The Huskies have had the brunt of the Great Depression alongside the Quebec Voyageurs (now Baltimore Orioles and the Ottawa Senators.
And finally, Marlboros forward Josh Schwartz has retired after winning his only Stanley Cup with the team. He retires as the all-time NHL goal leader.
